Infuriating trial and error has led to…
For text: copy to textedit and back
For graphs: right click and copy -> right click and paste!
UPDATE : don’t use the middle mouse button to switch between windows. Seems to reset the clipboard to global rather than the one for X11!!!

I’ll be following the numeric version scheme (see here) for my core ajax elements:
a.b.c
a – major revision
b – added features
c – bug fixes
I’ll be keeping a version history list in the ajaxdb ‘parent’ folder and will put the version number in a comment in the ‘child’ projects.

Another idiosyncrasy of openoffice… Text won’t wrap to fit either the standard text box (which stretches to fit whatever text it contains) or the coloured rectangle from the drawing toolbar.
After about 1/2 hour of searching and experimenting found this post
on the openoffice forum.
The solution – Pick the rectangle from the basic shapes menu rather than the one on the toolbar !?* For some reason the wrap text option is permitted in that one. You can then customise the rectangle to make it transparent, borderless etc. as required.
